(Back story) In late June of 1987 a cargo train traveling across Kansas had unexpectedly derailed, its secret cargo was dislodged from its hold and its contents spilled out into the surrounding area. Immediately after the incident there were rumors which indicated that the cargo; consisting of many thousands of black steel drums, were the remnants of a secret biological weapons experiment. The program was jointly run by the US army and the Center of Disease control, the cargo had been stored at a military base in the state of Oklahoma. The toxic substance within the steel drums was highly volatile, and when coming into contact with the air produces a vaporous gas. Over the coming weeks the toxic cloud had spread through the bordering states of Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado. Other states such as New Mexico, Illinois and Texas had also been partially effected. Military bases across the country were alerted as to the possible dangers, these basses included Fort Bliss in El Paso, Fort Benning Georgie, Los Alamitos in Minnesota, and the Umatilla Army Depot in Oregon. These bases were coordinated with the assistance of Major General Cort Blessing, who was appointed by a secret committee of high ranking Pentagon officials. Their initial task was to maintain public order and to prevent a backlash of outrage by the citizens of the states effected by this tragic accident. Then in late March of 1987 the situation had turned even more tragic, the vaporous toxic cloud had apparently ran its course, and at first its effect on the surrounding areas was minimum. Toward the end of that month the first of several strange occurrences simultaneously shocked and astonished the scientists commissioned to research the possible effects of the toxin. They ultimately concluded that the toxin had no adverse effect on the environment, nor on the populace, these assurance were soon proved to be grossly incorrect. Evacuation procedures were rushed and substantially ineffectual, this lead to widespread loss of human life, or so it seemed. You are the only humans remaining in the heartland states, which have been overrun by the living dead. Many of them have already been eliminated by the army, who have taken up the oath of unrestricted termination. Both "Walkers" are uninfected civilians are to be immediately cleansed, your task is to travel across the states of Kansas, Colorado and make your way to Utah. Rumors have suggested that within the state of Utah there is an old military base which has been taken over by the Resistance movement, this base is said to have ample protection from the hostile forces of the united states army, and of course the zombie hordes that have been shadowing your every step. Stories of similar atrocities in Canada have also been suggested, supposedly there is a secret 1000 foot tunnel under the border between Baudette, Minnesota and Rainy River, Ontario; through which refugees have made their way into the United States. You are all on your way to a small Colorado town known as Eagle Crest, you have come there in the hopes of finding much needed supplies. Some people have already arrived in Eagle Crest, while others are quickly approaching. Two other, as of yet unidentified individuals have joined the 23 people who have already entered the town. The abandoned military base run by Commander Robert Jensen Richards is your goal, it is less then 20 miles from Eagle Crest. (The quest) The quest starts in an abandoned town (at least by the living) in Colorado. It is dusk, the sun is well hidden, but soon it will rise to shed some much needed light upon the dreary, dust battered township of Eagle Crest. Sam Curtis has just come out from hiding and is making his way to the town. Nicola Fasset had left the safety of the bunker she was in and is fast approaching the Nebraska, Colorado boarder. Eddie Keanen has recently left the suburban town of Painted Hills, Utah; he is the closest to the abandoned military base, roughly 100 miles away.

(past events) Robert Jensen Richards, or Robert Jensen as he prefers to be called, had arrived in Utah in September of 1987 after escaping from a mental hospital in Missouri some months before. The road to Utah was a long and difficult one, as with most people in those troubling times Robert had no idea about what was going on. By the time he had begone his journeys most of the people throughout the two States he had traveled across, had all been evacuated; or so it appeared. His route through Kansas and Colorado was purely a turn of chance, as he had no way of knowing the plans that had been put into effect by the military. He also did not realize that these two states had yet to be dealt with by the army, this situation however had its drawbacks. Robert was forced to deal with the masses of infected humans that still wandered the two states. The number of infected humans that Robert had personally eliminated was almost unbelievable, though he tried his best to avoid them whenever it was possible to do so. Over a period of many weeks he traveled across the states, sleeping when he could, and hiding in the nighttime, which was a particularly dangerous time to be wandering around in a world infested with Zombies. Eventually Robert made his way to the abandoned military base in Utah, he had hoped that there would be others there and that the base would provide relative safety from the undead hoards traveling the countryside. His hopes were soon answered when he finally arrived in the small town of Moab Utah, it was there that Robert found the assistance that he so desperately sought. From there the individuals he had encountered took him to the base where he was briefed as to the situation and rules for staying at the facility. Although Robert had pretty much complete run over the entire complex, there was one area that he was forbidden to visit, or to even ask questions about. The woods directly behind the base were off limits to all new comers to the facility and Robert Jensen was no exception. These woods, which covered roughly 1000 acres of land were completely sealed within an immense electrified chain link, barb-wired fence.

Making your way to Eagle Rock Colorado, it is morning but a little gloomy. Everyone except Michael, Sam, Tyson, and David have met with little resistance as they are traveling in states which are nearly devoid of the walking dead.
1. Robert Jensen Richards is at the base 2. Nicola Fasset is traveling to Colorado from Minnesota/Canada border 3. Sam Curtis is making his way to Eagle Crest 4. Tyson Kamble is traveling South in central Colorado 5. Samantha Peters is traveling west on I-70, currently 45 miles west of Denver.

Sam Curtis had been to Colorado before, he had visited some family that lived there many years ago, but he never appreciated just how vast the state really was. It was early in the morning and so the walkers were out and about, he took every opportunity to hide himself in a house or crouched down in an dark and vacant ally. He stayed there for a few hours, keeping himself awake with his Walkman, the Metal music blasting in his ears. "I just need a to rest for a few minutes" he thinks to himself.

(past events, October 26th) Robert had been at the base for little more then a month, but even though he had been accepted by the members of the resistance his comings and goings were still strictly monitored. Then one day as the other chipped in on the monthly task of maintaining the base and the surrounding grounds, he slipped away on his own. The people manning the guard towers were in the process of changing their shifts and so Robert was able to run right up to the barb-wired fence which surrounded the entire 1000 acres of woods. Once there he listened, a few seconds later his ears were assaulted by the most blood curdling sound that he had ever heard. Robert, who was no stranger to demented sound of anguish was chilled to the bone by the ungodly scream. With his curiosity peaked he attempted to climb the fence, but when he heard someone coming he quickly hid. After that close call Robert returned to his room.

Samantha Peters is finally back on the interstate after being forced to take a detour due to a massive car pile up that made a large section of I-70 West impassable. Coming to a screeching halt after rounding a bend, Samantha barely managed to avoid joining the long standing carnage, throwing her Jeep into reverse she quickly does a 180 and heads back to the previous exit.
Once off the interstate Samantha weaved her way through back roads that were relatively free of anyone living or zombie. Only once did Samantha see anything other than woods and open pastures. Rolling to a 4-way stop and trying to decide which way would get her back to the next on-ramp for I-70, she looked to her side and saw a zombie kneeling at the edge of the road only a few yards away from a pickup truck that was down in the drainage ditch. As Samantha focused on the zombie she saw that the creature was tearing strips of flesh from what could only be a headless human torso. The zombie, so intent on its latest meal took no notice of Samantha as she sat there watching him.
Even though the act of what was happening before her eyes horrified her it also on some level fascinated her, she marveled at how quickly the world had changed and how quickly humans as a race were able to turn on each other. Her musings over, she reached into her passenger seat and grabbed her rifle. Balancing it on the rolled down window ledge she adjusted her scope. It seemed the zombie still would not raise its ugly head to give her a clean shot and so Samantha whistled. The distraction worked the zombie pricked its head up and attempted to locate the source of the sound but before he had a chance to focus on anything in Samantha's direction, she had pulled the trigger and the white post-and-rail fence behind the zombie was splattered with blood and brain matter. Sighing to herself, Samantha ejected the spent shell, put the car in gear and turned left.
Samantha traveled on for another twenty minutes or so until finally she came across the thing she had been looking for, a sign for the interstate. Following the directions on the sign Samantha turned right and within moments the on-ramp became visible. Slowly she turned onto the on-ramp, making sure that she could avoid and obstacles that may be in front of her. Fortunately the massive pile up had not blocked the interstate at this point. Samantha pulled the car into the middle lane and began picking up speed. Looking in her rear-view mirror all she could she behind her was several masses of differently-colored twisted, hunks of metal.

The sunlight warmly lit up Nicola Fasset's face as she drove out of the underground tunnel. Jack, the big black german shepherd, rushed to the window, to survey his new surroundings. As she looked around, the state of Minnesota, and the country of USA revealed itself from her. The beautiful country side flew by, field after field of golden stalks. The drive through the underground tunnel had been taxing on her mind, she was now extremely tired and zombie paranoid. Nicola's stomach rumbled loudly. As she looked back at Jack, who was sitting in the back seat, resting his head on his front paws, sleeping. She thought about how she needed to stock up on food and water, so as she passed each block of land, she scanned for any signs of farm houses. At last, a large brick building rose up from the right, and Nicola turned her 4WD into the plot of land. As she pulls into the dirt driveway next to the tall house, she fumbles for her rifle. She keeps Jack in the car, with the window slightly down.. She circles the house, checking for all exit points. Entering the front door, a terrible smell invaded her nostrils. She knew that smell, the smell of the dead. As she made her way through the house, she discovered no zombies, only two rotting corpses in the upper stairs bedroom. In the kitchen, she stuffed as much canned and dried food, and water as possible into her pack, and returns to the car for Jack. As they enter the house, Nicola locks all doors, and shoves shelves behind the two doors. She feeds Jack some slightly off meat in the fridge, and sits herself down for a meal of canned peaches. As the sun sets, she retreats to the lower stairs couch, with Jack at her feet to sleep.

Nicola looks around rapidly, pupils dilated, shocked at how the zombies got in. She quickly searches for her rifle. Kill or be killed, Nicola always thought. As the zombies slowly walked towards her *Blam!* she fired towards the dark where the zombie is. She hears a drop to the floor. She goes to inspect, rifle at the ready. She sees an ugly, grey zombie face staring up at her lifelessly on the floor. Nicola quickly feels around in the dark for her backpack, and grabs her rifle. "JACK!" she whispered loudly, "Jack, come here!". Nicola heard a high pitched whining at the room next to the kitchen. Oh no, she though, Jack! As she rushed to the entrance of the room that was the source of the sound, she laid her back against the wall. 'One, two, three' Nicola whispered to herself. As she turned into the room, gun at the ready, the moonlight from the window revealed a sillouhette of a second humanoid zombie, slowly stammering towards the dog. Nicola's heart was racing in her chest, rattling like a diabetic without his sugar. *Blam* a bullet penetrated the monsters shoulder. 'Damn!' Nicola exlaimed. Creeping up behind the distracted zombie, she fired five times, three bullets sailing through the dark, penetrating the zombie's skull and brain. The body fell to the floor, no longer animated. As Nicola approached the cowering dog, she grabbed him by the scruff and dragged him to her 4WD. Loading her rifle, pack and dog into the 4WD she flawed the pedel, zooming off into the night, still shocked by her encounter with the zombies.

Sam had falling asleep and by the time he had awoke it was edging unto nightfall, he quickly grabbed is backpack and made his way out of the narrow alleyway. Looking to his left he saw no obstacles which might hinder his travels, but when he turned to the right of him he was beset with the sight of several bloodthirsty zombies. Involuntarily, he drew up his two pistols and fired two shots from each weapon, three of the bullets hit their marks but the third missed a zombie completely. When Sam attempted to fire another round all he heard was CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!....He had forgotten to reload his handguns after his last encounter. Sam ran off franticly into the oncoming night.

Relieved to be back in the interstate, Samantha puts her foot down and for the next several hours she drives straight through without stopping. After traveling almost two hundred miles, Samantha exhausted and stiff knows she needs to find a safe place to rest for the night. Just as she begins to search for a place to spend the night, her gas gauge begins to bing, looking down she realizes that she is running dangerously close to empty. Knowing sleep will have to wait a while she takes the next exit and looks for a safe place to fill up. At this exit, there were three separate gas stations. The first two Samantha tried were dry but luck was on her side for the third station still had gas in its tanks.
With a full tank of gas, Samantha heads back in the direction she came now looking for a place to spend the night. With darkness fast approaching Samantha comes across an old barn standing alone in the middle of a pasture. Turning into the pasture and passing through the gate that separated it from the road Samantha quickly made her way to it. Once in front of the doors, Samantha got out and taking her rifle with her she proceeded to open the large double doors. Twilight filled the dusty barn as Samantha cautiously peered inside. Seeing no immediate danger, she slowly made her way into the barn. Methodically she checked every nook and cranny of the ground level and then proceeded to check the upper hay loft. After satisfying herself that no zombies were inside Samantha returned to her vehicle and pulled in into the barn. Putting the car in park, she once again returned to the double doors and peered out across zombie-free pastures. She quietly shut the double doors and used a length of rope she found hanging on the wall to tie the internal handles together. With that complete Samantha returned to her vehicle, turned off the engine grabbed her jacket, a blanket, a bottle of water, and some peanuts from the back of it. Carrying all this along with her rifle, she climbed the ladder to the hay loft and settled herself down to enjoy her meager dinner and some much needed rest. She was so tired that within minutes of finishing her dinner she fell fast asleep.

(Past events, November 1) Robert Jensen once again attempted to uncover the secrets beyond the barb-wired fence that were so closely protected by soldiers who ran the base. The fence was a bit of of distance from the base and it stood on an elevated plain. Sneaking behind the guard tower on the left side of the military base Robert utilized the wire cutters that he had stolen from the supply room. Not wanting to make too big of an opening Robert cut an entry way into the chain link fence. He squeezed his body through the small portal and once he got to his feet he immediately ran off toward the woods. The trees were high and full with leafy glory, this had a dramatic effect on the scene before Robert, as he suddenly found himself immersed in a gloomy realm of fallen, decayed foliage. After walking for a few hundred yards Robert stumbled upon six bodies, decked out in full military garb and in various states of decay and putridity.
